Only 80 of the unusual tanks, specifically adapted for use in the D-Day landings, were ever made. There were thought to be just two surviving Centaur tanks in the world, both placed as war memorials in Normandy - including one at Pegasus Bridge, immortalised in the film The Longest Day.
